Independent of the funded project work, Dr. Burghardt co-created the MA/STEM degree for elementary school teachers in 1995 and has served as a thesis advisor to about 150 students, assisting another 150 plus with designing their intervention. All theses involve the research question, “how does informed engineering design improve student learning in … “. He also created a course in Children’s Engineering in the STEM Classroom (CT 239) that anchors the program.
